Film & Television at PQA offers practical training in screen acting and filmmaking, led by industry-experienced teachers. Young filmmakers work in teams, using professional equipment to create original stories while building skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Exciting competitions like the 5-Week Film Challenge and Young Screenwriting Competition provide opportunities to showcase their creativity.
Young filmmakers develop skills as they navigate the phases of the filmmaking process, creating original shorts while working in front of and behind the camera in roles such as actor, director, producer, first AD, director of photography, camera operator, sound recordist, boom operator, production manager, designer, makeup artist, costume designer, props master, camera assistant, clapper loader, grip, or gaffer.
Production team sizes and filmmaking roles are tailored to their age and experience, deepening their knowledge of genres and techniques over time. Even six-year-olds handle professional cameras and sound equipment.
Your child can explore the wide variety of roles within a film production team, from producing and directing to costume design, make-up, and post-production—perfect for young people building confidence in front of an audience.
PQA students also develop their creative writing by working as a team to turn their concepts into storyboards and seeing these ideas through to production.
Acting for camera is a completely different skill to acting onstage and is something children love to explore. Children take on this acting technique, bringing characters to life in a different way to a stage performance.
Young actors learn to develop a truthful, emotional connection to character that can then be captured through the camera lens to create amazing film and TV.
We offer regular opportunities to screen and broadcast student films, giving a rounded experience from conception to exhibition. Young filmmakers are given the chance to celebrate their work with family and friends at academy Film Screenings and at our National Film Festivals.
PQATV is our online platform where we showcase the wonderful films created in our academies.
You can also see the results of our film challenges, our regional film festival and more on our PQA TV You Tube channel.
