We know that you want your child to be in an environment where they feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential - whether that’s at school or through extracurricular activities.

Perhaps you can remember a childhood activity that really made a difference in your life? We all know that those earlier years are crucial for development.

At The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA), we go beyond traditional performing arts education. Alongside industry training in acting, singing, and filmmaking, our students gain invaluable life skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and multitasking.

These transferable skills not only prepare them for stage and screen, but also equip them for the wider world helping them grow into grounded, confident adults.

Read on to discover why enrolling your child at PQA could be one of the best decisions for their future!

1. Film & TV: A Unique Experience

Our Film & Television offering gives students hands-on experience in every stage of the filmmaking process. They explore key roles such as camera operation, sound recording, screenwriting, production design, and acting for screen.

Working as a team, they develop creative writing skills, create storyboards, and bring their ideas to life through creating their own short films, offering a real insight into the industry and helping them discover which areas they enjoy most.

But the experience doesn’t stop there! Our young filmmakers get the full red-carpet treatment - literally! They get the opportunity to get all dressed up and experience the glitz and glam of walking the red carpet at their very own academy film screenings and National Film Festivals, celebrating their work cheered on by friends and family. Plus, their amazing creations are featured on PQATV - our very own online platform that celebrates talent from across all our academies.

2. Life Skills: More Than Just Performing

One of the most valuable reasons to join PQA is the essential life skills students develop. Every child is unique, some thrive in the spotlight, while others may need time to build confidence. Some may struggle with speaking up in a group, while others might find it challenging to take on leadership roles or step outside their comfort zone.

Our project-based learning approach encourages students to learn through doing, working together, and sharing ideas.

These experiences help them strengthen key skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and communication, allowing them to grow more confident and self-assured.

Over time, they become more resilient, learn to take on feedback, and build the self-belief needed to navigate everyday life.

3. Career Opportunities

At PQA, the opportunities don’t end when students leave our academy. Many of our alumni have gone on to train at drama schools and universities, while others have returned as PQA Principals or teachers, passing on their skills to the next generation.

This highlights how the experiences and skills gained at PQA can be applied to any career path, whether in the performing arts or beyond.

For those looking to pursue professional work in theatre, film, television, and commercials, our in-house agency, Quirky Kidz, exclusively represents PQA students nationwide.

With all auditions managed in-house, we ensure full support for both parents and clients while overseeing student welfare. Our talented students have landed incredible roles, from blockbuster films like Wicked to Netflix series like Toxic Town and stage productions such as Macbeth and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The possibilities are endless! Visit Quirky Kidz | Children & Young Performers Agency to learn more.

4. Inclusivity

We are committed to creating an environment where every student, regardless of background or identity, feels valued and supported. Their well-being is our priority, and we provide a space where they can be themselves and nurture self-expression through creativity.

Whether it’s through Film Premieres, West End performances, or achievements celebrated within the academy, we ensure that every student is recognised for their unique talents and given the freedom to express their creativity in their own way. Learning at PQA isn’t just fun, it’s a celebration of individuality and success!

Our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive and while not all of our academies have specialist staff or facilities to support accommodate SEND students, we encourage parents and carers to speak directly with their academy Principal to discuss any specific needs or adjustments required, and we always try our best to accommodate where possible.

Don't have experience in performing arts? No problem! We offer a free taster session to give young people a chance to try out a full three-hour session in Comedy & Drama, Film & TV, and Musical Theatre.

We have different colour groups, Green Group (6-9 years), Blue Group (10-12 years), and Red Group (13-18 years), where students are grouped with fellow peers in the same age range. They move up to the different colour groups as they grow in age and get to take on more exciting projects.

5. Weekend Only - A win win for all

Let’s face it, the week can be exhausting and stressful. Between school runs, homework, and the pressure of exam season, both parents and young people can end up feeling burned out by the end of the week.

By joining, young people gain something to look forward to every week - a chance to catch up with friends, build a sense of community, and surround themselves with like-minded children who share a passion for creativity. PQA isn’t just a fun weekend activity; it helps build routine, especially valuable for those aspiring to train as performers.

They gain a sense of accomplishment each week while developing discipline and accountability. And for parents, it’s a win-win—get a few hours to yourself to catch up on errands or simply enjoy some much-needed downtime. It’s the perfect balance for everyone!

Overall, these are just a few of the many reasons why joining PQA is a great choice.

Your child will be part of a welcoming space where they receive top-quality performing arts training from industry experts and learn to become more comfortable in their skin. Why not give it a go? Find an academy near you and book a free session today!
